ARTIST BIO
I went to the Maryland Institute, College of Art where I graduated with a major in Textiles. In my mid-twenties, a difficult life change led me to jewelry making. I needed a distraction and so I began taking a metalsmithing course at a local community college. Designing and creating jewelry made so much sense to me. I had always worked on a small scale and loved how jewelry engages both the wearer and the viewer. It could be beautiful and functional — I was hooked.
My current work is small and delicate, contemporary and intimate, with a strong focus on contrasts. Pieces made of matte black sterling silver in geometric shapes, contrasted with soft free-form shapes of 24K gold, as well as large geometric pendants contrasted with fine chains. It’s edgy but still feminine.
I want my viewer to experience a strong connection to my jewelry; to give them something they’ve never seen before. When someone has a strong gut reaction to one of my pieces, I know I’ve succeeded. The wearing is as important to me as the creating.
